~ Giving Back Initiatives ~
I love helping people - why? Because it makes a difference in my own life.
It gives me purpose, identity, a feeling of connection with other human beings.
I know that I am here for a reason - to give of my talents and abilities that God gave me, and to do so in a way that benefits them and me. I help them accomplish a goal in their life, and find more success, and I am happy to be the reason and continue to help if needed. I get referrals from students because they see I care about them and know I can help others.
But I am not here just to make a living, I am here to make a LIFE. I am dedicated to finding ways to help that don't always reward me financially, but help others through volunteering my time, talents and energy. If I take my eyes off my own needs, and help others, I appreciate what I have and what I can give them, and feel better about my own life, no matter what struggles I am facing.
Sometimes that is local - working with organizations that are making a difference in SO many lives in the Triangle area and are giving back to the community in so many ways. Those I have supported and am supporting this year and moving forward.
Sometimes that is working to help others get on their feet financially and give them a hand up, not just a hand out. Giving free Financial Fitness classes that help them understand how THEY can get ahead in this difficult economy. See what classes are coming up and how you can participate.
And sometimes, that is taking a leap of faith, and saying YES to going to another part of the world and giving of my time and talents there, and making a BIG difference in their lives.
I have been on 3 mission trips, from right out of college to a few years ago, and they always change my thinking. From locally to globally. From inward to outward. From stressing about my life to appreciating what I have and what I can give someone in another country that has much less than I do. I am planning another big trip - to Haiti this time - and I am so excited to see what happens!
Thanks for caring and hope you can connect and help if you so desire! :)

Life on Life Mission Trip to Haiti 2018
On February 9, 2018, I’ll be taking off to the beautiful country of Haiti, as part of the Life on Life initiative through Life Leadership with 25 others, to spend 6 days on the island of La Gonâve in a town called Anse-à-Galets, followed by 7 days in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, returning home late on February 21st, exhausted but happy!
Beyond the normal "mission trip" activities, we will be teaching the Haitians life skills: leadership and entrepreneurship, financial fitness and discipline, people skills and conflict resolution, as well as English! As we know, by changing the way we think, we can change the results in our lives and how we live every day. Our purpose in Haiti is to share high-quality information so that our new friends may take it and apply it to their own lives well after we are gone. We want to give them a hand up, not just a hand-out!
